    Position Summary:
    The primary function of this position is to assist management in ensuring all departments and remote terminals have adequate coverage in order to maintain an efficient, cost effective, safe, productive and professional operation, while ensuring positive customer service and employee relations.
     
    Key Responsibilities: (this list is not all inclusive)
    • Assist Management when full coverage cannot be maintained in the following departments: Drivers, Dispatch, Warehouse, and Operations Admin.  This includes but is not limited to filling in for:
      • Dispatch
      • Remote Terminal Management and Office
      • Drivers (including Linehaul with appropriate endorsements)
      • Warehouse Leads and/or supervisors
      • Yard
      • When all departments are at full capacity, assisting in deliveries and dispatch will be primary duties
    • Assist customers via phone, face-to-face and email regarding freight, researching problems, in a polite and professional manner
    • Trainer in the Driver Training Program
    • Linehaul dispatch, which may include, but not limited to:
      • Coordinating and scheduling all trailers to/from Terminals
      • Coordinating and scheduling load planning
      • Maintaining daily trailer inventory control
      • Updating trailer tracking and dock checks
    • Communicate and enforce Company policies
    • Update shipment tracking system when needed and help maintain timely data integrity
    • With management request, assist coworkers and other departments as requested
    • Consistently adhere to all of Span/MSTS Safety and Fit for Duty policies and procedures as well as DOT regulations
    • Special projects as required
    • Other duties as assigned
     
    Communication/Customer Contact:
    Communication skills are necessary as the position interacts with other employees and may interact with customers, vendors, contractors and/or suppliers.  Contacts are typically face-to-face but may be via telephone.  Communication is rarely about confidential information.
     
    Supervision/Management:
    • This position is not a management position

    • High School diploma (or equivalent) required
      • Higher education/vocational training preferred
    • Minimum three years’ experience required
      • Prior management experience preferred
    • Transportation or freight experience preferred
    • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position
    • Ability to safely operate any and all company owned equipment
     
    Special Certifications/Licenses:
    • Hazardous Materials Certificate
    • Forklift Certificate
    • Valid Class A CDL License preferred
    • Clean driving record
    • Current Medical Card preferred
     
    Physical Demands:
    • Ability to move up to 200 pounds utilizing proper moving equipment
    • Ability to independently move up to 70 pounds
    • Ability to use proper lifting techniques when needed
    • Ability to do repetitive motions which may include hand dexterity, grasping, reaching, bending and/or feeling
    • Good body coordination and equilibrium
    • Good manual dexterity
    • Strong core strength
    • Strong multi-limb coordination
    • Ability to sit, walk or stand for long periods of time
     
    Work Environment:
    Work is performed mostly in an office or warehouse environment, will also include outside work in the elements.  Exposure to exhaust fumes is likely.  Overtime may be mandatory as needed.  Conditions may also include exposure to environmental noise.
