Reports To: CU Support Services Manager
Purpose:
The Title & Lien Specialist will build and maintain successful member relationships on consumer lending collateralized loans through accurate and timely processing of the lien administration, including lien perfection, lien release and lien follow-up. Will work as a valued team member among their peers and willfully act as backup for others as necessary to ensure the success of the credit union.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a liaison for the Credit Union to process and perfect liens with the State of Alaska, ensuring accurate and timely filing in compliance with state regulations.
- Understand DMV Regulations: Stay up to date with DMV requirements and changes in the process of title lien perfection.
- Lien Perfection Process: Ensure that liens on vehicle titles are properly recorded with the DMV after a loan is issued, securing the credit unions interest. This includes following up with dealerships, financial institutions, and other vendors as needed to resolve any delays in the filing process.
- Work with electronic lien and title systems (ELT) to file and manage lienholder information.
- Work with out-of-state DMVs to process title requests, including vehicle title transfer and registration applications.
- Complete UCC filings with the Department of Natural Resources to secure interests on untitled collateral, such as offroad or equipment.
- Monitor inventory of DMV supplies and conduct regular audits to ensure accurate supply counts.
- Accurately process and submit payments for DMV related processes
- Monthly GL Balancing and assisting in ensuring appropriate fees are collected.

- Internal applicants: Minimum 6 months with the credit union
- Experience: One year to three years of similar or related experience.
- Education: (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
- Interpersonal Skills: Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
- Other Skills: General office equipment such as calculators, Microsoft products, computers, photocopiers, telephones, and scanners. Basic knowledge of established CU procedures and policies. Understanding of Credit Union operations. Maintains confidentiality related to Credit Union operations and work-related information.
