Reports to: Recovery Solutions Manager
Purpose:
Responsible for the collection of delinquent loan payments and/or overdrawn accounts. Make attempts to contact them by Initiating phone calls, texts, and emails on these accounts. Maintain accurate collection notes for each one as well. Optimize collections on accounts while balancing members' goodwill with the credit union's overall business interest.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attempt to contact and collect on delinquent loans & overdraft accounts.
- Set up, post, and transfer payments for members in the form of ACH, card payments, or other accepted methods
- Follow up on all correspondence from members in a timely manner. Ensure professional interface with members.
- Assist our members in developing plans to bring accounts to current status and/or bring their loans current
- Notate ALL correspondence with members within our Collections package.
- Use all tools and programs given to locate members.
- Research payroll deductions, stops, starts, and changes as they may affect the status of loan repayment.
- Determine when loan collateral should be repossessed and serve as a liaison between agents or agencies in handling the repossession of collateral.
- Take further action such as: Filing Small claims packets and sending files out to our 3rd party collections agency on delinquent loans at the appropriate time.
- Follow policy and learn how to handle accounts where bankruptcy has been filed.
- Work with all staff in a professional manner while assisting them in dealing with collection members.
- Assist with interoffice duties which include but is not limited to working returned mail, sorting and delivering credit union mail, answering the door or phones
- Rework loan files for accounts that have forced place insurance
- Post and track payments from all outside resources
- Balance general ledgers associated with the department

- Experience: One year to three years of proven experience
- Education: A two-year college degree, or completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program
- Interpersonal Skills: Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication and customer service skills. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Other Skills: General office equipment such as calculators, Microsoft products, computers, photocopiers, telephones, and scanners. Understanding of Credit Union operations. Maintains confidentiality related to Credit Union operations and work-related information.
