Job Description
Financial Planning Analysis (FP&A) Superintendent is responsible for preparing and applying overall Kinross guidelines to forward looking information processes, including preparation of mine site strategic business plans (SBP), budgets and forecasts, analysis to support the validity of the budgeted/forecasted results, analysis of actual results against budget and other ad hoc analysis; work closely with the controller as well as reporting and operational groups to ensure the timely and accurate flow of information from the sites to region; assist in supporting the finance departments as it relates to the SBP, budgeting and forecasting, monthly and quarterly reporting, application of corporate policies and other finance related issues, while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee and assist in the preparation of mine site budgets, forecasts and SBPs by working with the operational departments to ensure submissions are timely and accurate and understanding the business drivers behind them. Continue to foster working relationship with regional and corporate FP&A resources
- Provide analysis of budgets, forecasts, and SBP results to the mine site senior management in order to facilitate review and for inclusion in documents (slides, write ups, spreadsheets) to be provided to senior management
- Work to continuously improve the SBP, budgeting and forecasting process at the site level as well as regional including ensuring a smooth run-state for the site SBP, budget, and forecast system with an emphasis on efficiency. Involvement in the implementation of a new operating site SBP and budget, forecast solution
- Manage internal reporting and analysis for internal distribution, including review of information provided by the operational groups, in a way that will enable various stakeholders to understand results (maintain/monitor operating statistics, produce monthly reports)
- Respond to questions and address issues that arise from review of the results and reporting, including working with site personnel to gain an understanding of results and resolve issues
- Provide analysis to support the financial reporting group in the preparation of the Management Discussion and Analysis and quarterly press release
- Assist in managing site specific cost savings as applicable including monitoring progress and implementation when warranted
- In addition to the monthly and quarterly requirements, there is an ongoing need for analysis to support business decisions, Authorization For Expenditures (AFEs), business development, etc. Frequently changing demands require creative and thoughtful solutions and the ability to effectively convey results
- Work with the mine site leadership on projects to continuously improve processes in areas of responsibility noted above, including working with the finance team to automate reporting from information systems, identifying and acting on gaps in current processes and controls, and working with internal stakeholders to ensure that their needs are met
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary education in Finance or Accounting
- CPA or CMA preferred
- Experience working with an integrated ERP/MRP system consisting of multiple functional modules such as Oracle, JD Edwards, or similar system is highly preferred
- 5-10 years of related work experience
- Must be have strong technical skills and able to perform complex and non-routine, advanced technical assignments.
- Must use judgment for problem resolution to adapt and apply procedures that address and resolve unusual problem situations.
- Must ensure quality standards are upheld in their field of specialization.
- General understanding of mining operations as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
- Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing work processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
- Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
- Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
- Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills
- Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
- May work holidays, shift work, and weekends as required.
