GVEA is an electric cooperative which maintains 3,292 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 40 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all of the electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. Powering the Interior of Alaska, GVEA contributes to the economic, environmental, and social viability of our communities.
Your role as a Plant Engineer Intern
As a Plant Engineer Intern at Golden Valley Electric Association, you will provide essential engineering services under the guidance of experienced professionals. Your role will support the operation and maintenance of GVEA's power generation and energy management systems, allowing you to engage with cutting-edge technologies and processes. You will execute a variety of projects and responsibilities designed to enhance GVEA's operations while prioritizing the needs of our members and employees. This internship is a remarkable opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in a practical setting, fostering your growth while contributing to the mission of delivering safe, reliable, and innovative energy solutions. Hours are up to 8 hours per day, not to exceed 30 hours per week. Hours are flexible around schooling commitments.
Are you the Plant Engineer Intern we're looking for?
To thrive as a Plant Engineer Intern at Golden Valley Electric Association, candidates should possess a strong foundation in electrical engineering concepts, as evidenced by the completion of at least 75% of an ABET-accredited degree program. Familiarity with industry-standard software and tools will be instrumental in executing projects effectively. Additionally, strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for navigating the complexities of power generation and energy management. A valid Alaska driver's license is required for this position, enabling you to engage in fieldwork and site visits as necessary.
Excellent communication skills will enhance collaboration within a team environment, ensuring that all projects align with GVEA's mission and values. This internship serves as a vital stepping stone for aspiring engineers looking to make meaningful contributions in the energy sector.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
- 75% completion of an ABET accredited BS Electrical Engineering degree
