    GVEA is an electric cooperative which maintains 3,292 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 40 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all of the electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. Powering the Interior of Alaska, GVEA contributes to the economic, environmental, and social viability of our communities.

    WHAT DOES A CONSTRUCTION FIELD REPRESENTATIVE DO?

    As a Construction Field Representative at Golden Valley Electric Association in Fairbanks, you will engage with both new and existing members to understand and address their electrical service needs. This dynamic position involves planning the construction of GVEA distribution facilities, which includes everything from residential and commercial services to preliminary engineering and staking right-of-way. You'll play a vital role in creating and redlining CAD GIS maps while ordering necessary materials. Serving as the primary point of contact for new construction, you'll collaborate with various departments and ensure member facilities comply with GVEA, NEC, and NESC regulations prior to connecting to the power grid. This role combines technical expertise and member interaction, making it essential to our mission of providing safe and reliable electrical services.

    WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

    To excel as a Construction Field Representative at Golden Valley Electric Association, candidates must possess a strong foundation in the electrical field, supported by a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of post-secondary coursework. A valid Alaska driver's license is essential for this role, ensuring safe travel to various job sites. Candidates should also have at least three years of experience in the utility field, with extensive customer contact experience being crucial for effective communication with members. Proficiency in software related to CAD and GIS mapping is highly beneficial, along with the ability to analyze, plan, and execute construction projects efficiently. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, allowing them to maintain a positive and professional demeanor while navigating various member needs and adhering to GVEA, NEC, and NESC regulations.

    Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • One year post-secondary coursework in the electrical field.
    • A valid Alaska driver's license is required.
    • Three years experience in the utility field with extensive customer contact.
