Golden Valley Electric Association: What drives us
GVEA is an electric cooperative which maintains 3,292 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 40 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all of the electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. Powering the Interior of Alaska, GVEA contributes to the economic, environmental, and social viability of our communities.
Your day to day as a Right-of-Way Agent
As a Right-of-Way Agent at Golden Valley Electric Association in Fairbanks, you will play a crucial role in negotiating and acquiring essential real property rights for the Association. Your responsibilities will include the negotiation of property rights with landowners and public officials to secure the purchase or lease of land and right-of-way required for utility lines, substations, and power plants. You will utilize multiple processes to acquire easements, agreements, fee ownership, and leases, ensuring the seamless construction, maintenance, access, and expansion of GVEA's transmission, distribution, and fiber facilities. Additionally, you will draft and finalize essential easements and property agreements, while developing plats for recordation to protect the Association's interests and mitigate any potential complaints. This position is perfect for someone eager to make a significant impact in the cooperative electric industry.

To thrive as a Right-of-Way Agent at Golden Valley Electric Association, candidates must possess a robust skill set tailored for the electric utility industry. A valid Alaska driver's license is essential for travel to various job sites. Applicants should have a minimum of three years of relevant experience with an electric utility or construction-related firm, demonstrating a solid understanding of property negotiations and legal documentation. Proficiency in personal computing is critical, as candidates will utilize various software tools for drafting easements and managing property agreements. Additionally, successful candidates will have experience working collaboratively with diverse groups of people, fostering strong relationships with property owners and public officials alike.
This combination of skills and experience will equip you to effectively navigate complex negotiations and contribute significantly to the Association's mission-focused objectives.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
- Valid Alaska Drivers license is required.
- Three years relevant experience with an electric utility or construction-related firm.
- Relevant personal computing experience indicative of skills sought for this position.
- Experience working with diverse groups of people.
