The Story of Plastic Virtual Screening

Join Green Star and UAF's Office of Sustainability in watching The Story of Plastic and participating in a community discussion from the comfort of your own home! About the film: Produced by the Story of Stuff Project, The Story of Plastic takes a sweeping look at the man-made crisis of plastic pollution and the worldwide effect it has on the health of our planet and the people who inhabit it. Spanning three continents, the film illustrates the ongoing catastrophe: fields full of garbage, veritable mountains of trash, rivers and seas clogged with waste, and skies chocked with the poisonous emissions from plastic production and processing. The Story of Plastic features interviews with experts and activists on the frontlines of the fight, revealing the disastrous consequences of the flood of plastic smothering ecosystems and poisoning communities around the world, and the global movement that is rising up in response. With engaging original animation, archival industry footage beginning in the 1930s, and first-person accounts of the unfolding emergency the film distills a complex problem that is increasingly affecting the planet's and its residents' well-being. About the event: This screening is FREE and open to the public. Register for the event (via Eventbrite, link below) to receive a link to stream the film from your home. Attendees will receive a link to stream the film from Green Star approximately 3-4 days before the event start time. The link will be delivered to you at the email address you use to RSVP. We will reconvene on June 3rd at 5:30 pm on Zoom for a community presentation about plastic reduction efforts in Fairbanks; you will receive a separate link for that event alongside the streaming link. IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION: We highly encourage folks to watch the film in their homes with just family members and house mates - we are not encouraging "watch parties" or other forms of social gathering to view the film. When registering, please just register for ONE "ticket," regardless of the number of people who will be watching the film in your house. For our purposes, one ticket = one screen. Please contact us if you have questions!
