2024 marks the 25th anniversary of the Fairbanks Watercolor Society and the 25th Annual Water Media Show. Fairbanks Watercolor Society officially turned 25 years old in January, 2024!
In this beautiful exhibition there will be over 100 works of art submitted by 36 artists from the Watercolor Society on view. Wander through the Bear Gallery and get lost in a world of color, nature and abstract stories in this array of visual art.
The Watercolor Society was founded in January 1999 with officers officers Jack Taylor, President; Neville Abbott Jacobs, Vice President; Gael Murakami, Secretary; and Barbara O’Dell, Treasurer. Fourteen hardy artists attended that first meeting despite -40 temps and ice fog. Topics included developing a logo, workshops, paint-ins and outs, and who was exhibiting where. Jim Allan organized the first Annual Show at Denali State Bank on Airport Road in March of 1999.,
In March 2009 the Watercolor Society celebrated their 10th year at the Annual Show at New Horizons Gallery. In April 2019, they celebrated their 20th anniversary at the Bear Gallery. Since 2009, they have grown from 20 members to over a hundred. Their membership ranges from beginners to professional artists, art instructors, and lifelong painters from different careers and walks of life. Creating and sharing their art is the common thread that binds them and challenges them to do their very best work. Exhibiting their work is how they share with and proudly show the world what they do.
The Fairbanks Watercolor Society invites their many friends, family, fans, supporters, and fellow artists to view and celebrate 25 years of creating and exhibiting our art at the Bear Gallery.
