Mission Statement
The Governmental Relations Committee (GRC) monitors and advocates proposed or existing laws, policies, and regulations affecting the Chamber and its mission. From time to time, the committee submits formal recommendations to the Board and takes a lead educational role in advocating Chamber positions externally.
Goals for the Year
- To further the mission of the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce through proactive and effective advocacy on local, state, and federal issues of importance to the Fairbanks business community
- Provide recommendations to the Board in the development of annual legislative priorities in accordance with the Political Advocacy Plan and implement a proactive strategy to effectively advocate priorities
- Provide recommendations to the Board regarding the development of state-wide legislative priorities to be submitted to the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce Policy Forum in accordance with the Political Advocacy Plan
- Provide recommendations to the Board in the development of positions on legislative issues that arise after priorities are established
- To implement a proactive strategy for effective advocacy of the Chamber’s legislative priorities
Programs & Projects for the Year
- Legislative Outreach
- Organize annual Juneau Fly-In event, and other opportunities for personal interface with the Alaska State Legislature and Governor regarding the Chamber’s priorities
- Develop partnerships with other Chambers across the state, as well as business and industry organizations
- Partner with GFCC committees as needed to advance advocacy efforts
- On-going meetings with local, state, and federal officials and lawmakers
- Political Forums & Panel Discussions
- Host quality public forums for election candidates as well as panel discussions relevant to the Chamber of Commerce
- Education
- Ensure availability of methods for public advocacy and education on issues of importance to the Chamber.
- Recommend appropriate General Membership Luncheon Programs/Panel Discussions
